When I last blogged about my First Grade Math Boom Cards, many people were just beginning to discover the incredible Boom Learning platform, which made many teachers’ lives so much easier.  Assigning, asssessing, and differentiating became a breeze, and the fact that everything could be done online was probably the reason why there was such a big push considering the current circumstances. 

Well, my Second Grade Math Boom Cards are on their way! I have meticulously planned them to cover a wide range of topics that hit the Second Grade Common Core standards and more. They are divided into 12 units which can be played throughout the year, so scroll down and see exactly what is included in each unit.

Second Grade Math Boom Cards

Unit 1: Number Sense to 1000

Common Core Standards: 

  • 2.NBT.A.2
  • 2.NBT.A.3
  • 2.OA.C.3
Students will practice skip counting, identify even and odd numbers, and read and write numbers to 1000.

Unit 2: Place Value

Common Core Standards: 

  • 2.NBT.A.1
  • 2.NBT.A.3
  • 2.NBT.A.4
This unit will help students build a solid foundation in understanding place value strategies. Students will understand that the three digits of a three-digit number represent amounts of hundreds, tens, and ones.

Unit 3: Mental Math

Common Core Standards: 

  • 2.OA.B.2
  • 2.NBT.B.8
This unit was designed to encourage students to fluently add and subtract using mental strategies. Students will add and subtract within 20, add and subtract multiples of ten, add doubles and near doubles.

Unit 3: Mental Math

Common Core Standards: 

  • 2.NBT.B.5
  • 2.NBT.B.9
  • 2.MD.B.6
  • 2.OA.A.1
Students will use different addition strategies such as decomposing numbers, using a number line, regrouping, carrying, and  using base ten blocks. They will also solve real life word problems.
